Anti-virus software

Am I the only guy that always seems to have my anti-virus software running out or getting those annoying reminders to renew. It seems like a constant issue... but something we all need.
I found this landing page with a good price on McAfee software (as usual, for a limited time only)... use it if you want, or ignore it... I'll leave that to you, but it's worth a look.

Just passing on the love.... McAfee Limited Time Coupons!

Brother,

Personally, I use AVG AntiVirus. It is free for personal use and automatically updates aand checks daily. I've used it for manhy years and am very pleased with it. It has saved my computer many times. . .

It can be found at www.filehippo.com as a free download.

Dean,
I've been using Avast! for the last six months or so and I really like it. It updates constantly, and automatically, and, what's more, it's free.

AVG is great. In the IT half of my life, that is what we use. Just be warned the new 8.0 is a bigger program so if you have an older computer, it eats up more resources. Avast, like wayfaring says is also a good program. Why pay when there is better for free.

I use AVG at home because it's free, and I don't want to spend a lot of time messing around. At work we have Symantec/Norton on the network.

I have Dell at home that shipped with McAfee, but the reminders and notices made me nuts. I deleted it and put AVG on there. I'll probably just buy the upgraded AVG package later this year because I've not got 3 pcs at home.

Wow for a quick post this post has gotten a lot of decent feedback. Thanks Brothers... I run two PCs and one is hitting Wifi zones all the time... Is AVG still good for that application? How do they make their money?

I used to use AVG -- and LOVED it. Very enthusiastic. I probably helped about 25 other people install it over the years. But, as of version 8, I found too many problems and difficulties, and it has a lot of bloat (like the thing that rewrites Google query results automatically) so I tried Avast, clamwin, and Avira, and I eventually decided to switch to Avira AntiVir on my Windows virtual machine (I run Linux as my main desktop OS.) It seems to be the most efficient and least annoying of the bunch. Just my two cents.

AVG 8.0 does have bloat but you can find the older versions at http://www.oldversion.com/

This will run on all your machines at the house. There money comes from corporate accounts.

I use Ubuntu so it's not an issue as no one really writes virus' for Linux.

Richard: Interesting. But, by definition I'm pretty sure an "old version" of an Anti-Virus program pretty much defeats the purpose. :-)
